About Me

Devandran Karunakaran was born and raised in Singapore, a country with one of the world's busiest and largest ports. This background of a bustling metropolitan life centered on the economics of expeditious import and export was one of the original reasons he chose to spend his early legal Practice advocating for clients on ship finance arrangements and assisting offshore and renewable energy firms.

Mr. Karunakaran grew up in a happy and loving family, with his mother working as a chef specializing in authentic Southeast Asian dishes and his father serving as the headmaster of an international school. He has a huge extended family, most of whom reside in Singapore.

Devandran moved to the United Kingdom to claim his independence and begin his professional career after completing his mandatory 2-1/2 year national service to the country at the age of 21.

Education and Instruction

Karunakaran studied law at the University of Leicester. The university is a top research university with a reputation for providing advanced learning opportunities to students. Mr. Karunakaran was an expert in contract law, a branch of law concerned with governing, enforcing, and interpreting legal and commercial agreements between businesses.

Devandran Karunakaran was also keen on public international law, known as The Law of Nations. This corpus of legislation contains the rules and regulations that govern and control international interactions.

Karunakaran recalls fondly the many origins and races of the individuals he met and befriended while studying at Leicester University. Several of his strong connections have lasted to this day. His university flatmate, for example, served as best man during Karunakaran's wedding to his wife.

Mr. Karunakaran was an active part of the rugby team at the university, where he competed at the university level. After completing his postgraduate studies, Devandran relocated to London to begin his legal career. He secured a training contract position with a well-known UK-based international law firm.

Professional Background

The trainee solicitor market in the United Kingdom is extremely competitive, and training contracts are scarce. Yet, this training program is required to become a UK attorney. Karunakaran was fortunate to immediately get a training contract with a well-known UK legal practice. He couldn't pass up such a great chance. Instead of returning to Singapore after graduation, he relocated to London.

Mr. Karunakaran has lived in London for nearly 13 years and considers it a second home. He also made many professional contacts and personal alliances here, which led to him working for two international law firms and living and working in Piraeus, Greece.

Devandran, well-known and respected for his technical legal knowledge, chose to specialize in ship finance law and offshore energy and renewables. In these roles, he works hard to balance technical legal abilities with commercial and business acumen for the benefit and profit of his clients.

Devandran Karunakaran eventually joined PT Indo Energy Solutions as an advisor to the board of directors in 2020, a role that grew to be all-encompassing. While the company is based in Indonesia, Devandran remained in Singapore and commuted to various parts of the country as the job required.

Personal life and interests

Devandran met his future wife, Cornelia, after returning to Singapore in 2015. Cornelia was working in Germany and on secondment to Singapore at the time. Her family is from Halle, Germany, which has since become Devandran's second home.

Mr. Karunakaran likes cooking and being close to and caring for his parents. He inherited a passion for the culinary arts from his mother, aunts, and grandmother, who are excellent cooks. He desires to not only prepare the dishes he grew up eating but to do so in a healthy and balanced manner.

Devandran and his wife, Cornelia, are very concerned about global ecology. They practice sustainable living whenever possible to leave a better world for their daughter. With that desire, Mr. Karunakaran has set a personal goal to do environmental volunteer work in the coming years. He is currently involved in food security-related volunteer work because no one should go hungry today.

Devandran and his family also like traveling. In addition to the travel that both of their jobs required before the meeting, he and his wife have visited Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Switzerland, and Australia. Their objective is to instill a love of travel and seeing new locations in their little daughter.

Physical fitness is also an important aspect of his family's lives. In addition to eating healthy foods, they exercise, get plenty of fresh air, and use natural foods to heal and sustain the body.

Devandran Karunakaran and his family are also involved in charity since they consider themselves extremely fortunate. They have made contributions to help Ukrainian refugees for that purpose. In addition, he contributed his time and skills as a trustee for a Hindu temple with which his family is affiliated.
